Navigate Locales and Translate Content
Learn how to copy and translate content.
Navigating locales
If your repository has multiple locales, you can switch between them from the page list or from within a page.
From the page list
In the top-left corner, the locale dropdown lists all available locales. Select a locale to view pages available in it.
From within a page
In the page editor, the locale dropdown on the top right allows you to open a version of that page in a different locale. If it doesn’t exist yet, it will show as an empty draft.
Copy to another locale
You can copy a page to another locale individually from the page editor, or copy multiple pages from the page list.
In the editor, selecting Copy to another locale opens a window to choose what to copy and the target language.
For instructions on bulk copying, see Make Changes in Bulk.
Copy all content
Copies all fields from the source locale to the target locale for manual translation.
Translate with AI
Creates a translated copy of a page while keeping layout, formatting, and internal links.
You can also set rules for branded terms, tone, and preferred wording.
To use it, open a page, select Copy to another locale in the right sidebar, and choose Translate with AI.
Each repository includes five free translations. Completing a short feedback form adds five more. For unlimited translations, contact sales@prismic.io.
Glossary rules
Glossary rules ensure consistent wording for specific terms during translation.
This is useful for product names, brand language, or any term that should appear consistently across locales.
When translating with AI, you can add glossary rules directly in the translation flow:
- Enter the term in the source locale.
- Define how it should appear in the target locale.
- (Optional) Select All locales as the target to apply the rule across all locales.
Example: Set “Page Builder” in English to remain “Page Builder” in French, German, and Spanish.
The glossary is applied automatically whenever you translate content.
Soon, you’ll also be able to manage and upload glossaries from your repository settings.
Additional translation instructions
When using Translate with AI, you can include extra guidance for tone, style, or phrasing.
This is helpful for:
- Preferred terminology for key phrases
- Specific tone or style (journalistic, formal, casual)
- How to address the reader (formal vs. informal)
- Protecting product names and branded terms from translation
These instructions are applied during translation to better match your brand and communication style.
