Schedule publishing

Save drafts, group them into releases, and schedule them to publish in the future.

Prismic lets you save content as drafts, group changes into releases, and schedule them to publish at a specific time.

  • Drafts: Unpublished pages or edits.
  • Releases: A collection of drafts to publish together.
  • Scheduling: Setting a date and time for a draft or release to go live.

Drafts

When you edit a page:

  • Make changes — you now have an unsaved version.
  • Save your changes — you now have a saved draft.
  • Publish — your draft goes live.

All users can edit and save drafts, but only Publishers, Administrators, and Repository Owners can publish. Learn more —>.

Drafts make collaboration easier. For example, a writer can prepare a draft and send it to a publisher for review.

Releases

Releases let you prepare and publish multiple pages at once.
This is useful for product launches, site updates, or any change that affects several pages.

You can manage releases from the Planned tab in the Page Builder.

Create a release

  • From the Planned tab, click Create a new release.
  • Or, when editing a draft, save it, click the calendar icon next to Publish, and choose to create a new release or add to an existing one.

Add pages to a release

After saving a page, click the calendar icon next to Publish and choose a release. You can also create new pages directly inside a release from the Planned tab.

Schedule a release

In the Planned tab, click the date/time button next to a release to set or update its publication time.

Preview a release

If previews are set up, click Preview next to the release name, then select an environment. You’ll see the release as it will appear when published. More on previews.

Managing multiple releases

A page can exist in more than one release, each with its own version.
Changes made in one release are not automatically synced to another — update each version separately if needed.

Remove a draft from a release

  • Open the page in the release.
  • Click the three dots next to Publish and select Archive document.
  • Go to the Archived tab, open the page, click View history, and restore the latest version.
The page will return as a draft in the Work tab.

Delete a release

From the Planned tab, click Delete next to the release name.
When deleted:

  • New pages in the release are archived.
  • Updated pages in the release are archived, keeping the original version live.

Publish a release

From the Planned tab, click Publish next to the release name and confirm.
Only Publishers, Administrators, and Repository Owners can manually publish a release.

Limits

A release can contain up to 200 pages.
If you need more, create multiple releases and schedule them at least one minute apart.
To avoid broken links, keep linked pages in the same release.
